Transfer Bench

I bought this shower transfer bench (MDS86952H) for my mother when she broke her hip and could no longer get in and out of the tub. This has been an invaluable tool in bathing her since her injury. The suction cups that hold the bench in place are great. Once they adhere to the tub—they are not moving. The bench allows me to place my mother directly from standing outside the tub into the tub with very little movement on her part. She just simply sits down on the bench then she slides her legs (one at a time) into the tub and then we are ready to shower her. The patient can hold onto the bar for stability and the bench is padded for comfort.

Overall this product has held up extremely well. It is easy to remove from the tub and dries quickly. I have been very happy with this purchase and DME has a great price for a great product.

Canes were accepted as a fashion accessory for women in the last half of the 18th century when Marie Antoinette adopted the shepherd's crook as an adornment.

It's not just babies diapers that are going into landfills, what about reusable adult diapers? One positive of using reusable adult diapers, as opposed to using disposable diapers, is lessening the negative impact on the environment. When Anthony Hopkins sports an Eye Patch for the most recent hit movie Thor, people start thinking that people who wear eye patches are just trendy. Of course in the soon to be released movie Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, I'm sure their will be many a pirate wearing these black patches....Argghhhhh.

Of course their are 2 kinds of eye patches: Adhesive and Standard.

Adhesive Eye Patches - Adhesive eye patches include those manufactured by Nexcare (3M®), Coverlet ® and Ortopad (Master Aid ®). Adhesive eye patches have a peel-away side with adhesive that sticks to the skin.

They are used often in the treastment of Amblyopia, or lazy eye. Ortopad adhesive patches are hypoallergenic, meaning that the chance of skin irritation is reduced, but some sensitive children can still react to the adhesive. Some of the adhesive patches (e.g., Nexcare) come in more than one size; junior and regular. The right size is dependent on the head size and age, but as a rule junior size is ideal for children 2 years or younger. IV poles can be dangerous

As if heart surgery isn't bad enough at 74 yrs old, but this incident at St. Francis Health's Heart Center made things go from bad to worse for Richard Wallace Sr. While recovering in the intensive care unit he was unfortunate to have a wall-mounted IV pole fall on him, hitting him on the head.

"Diagnostic testing and neurosurgical consultation revealed an intracranial hemorrhage in the early-morning hours. The patient is not expected to survive," the hospital said in a statement.

The man's son, Richard Wallace II, told local news that his father had been expected to make a full recovery from his heart surgery. While he is in the process of making funeral arrangements he is also working with a local attorney to take action.

The hospital said in a statement that immediate action was being taken to transfer all monitors from wall-mounted IV poles to the floor-based IV poles in all three Indianapolis-area St. Francis Health hospitals.

"A thorough investigation into the cause of this event is under way. Our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with this family during this extremely difficult time," St. Francis Health President and CEO Robert J. Brody said in a statement.

Their have been problems with monitors mounted beneath IV poles getting damaged from fluid leakage in the past. But this is the first recorded incident of a monitor on an IV pole hitting a patient and causing his death. Do you think this is a freak accident or something more hospitals should watch for?

I'm a fan of heat pads. I like to stick them down by my feet when I climb into bed. I found this little number while browsing DMESupplyGroup.com this morning. Run all of your humidifiers and open the door to the shower with really hot water running.

And we seem to get more than our share, because the vendor supplies us something that's not quite right, or the pictures they give us for the website aren't the right ones, or the descriptions they supply us with says something different than what they actually ship. And who does the customer yell at? Us, of course. But we just want the customer to be happy. Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when we try to do something positive by offering medical products via a web retail mechanism. Hmmm. That didn't come out as elegant as I had hoped. Ah, well.

We also sold some Medline Misacodyl Suppositories. I really hope those are right. Sometimes, Medline is a little confusing . . . I suppose because they don't really deal with the end user, but we have to, alas. We really do try and make them understand. I don't think it's working.

Not sure how it'll work out. It's kind of expensive--not in and of itself, but because there's a per product charge, and we carry a lot of products that don't necessarily sell, but we offer them in order to be a full-service provider.

But here's a sample search for Ostomy products, for example. Definitely better than the typical Yahoo search results for "ostomy", I'm sure you will agree.

Here's a search for "needles and syringes" using the new Nextopia search engine. Surely, better than the native Yahoo! Store search, but is it enough to justify the expense? That . . . that is the question.

Here's a search for IV Poles using the Grid view. Pretty cool. Can sort by price and refine results and see how many results you've gotten . . . all the stuff the Yahoo! store search doesn't give us. And Yahoo! started out as a search engine. That's just kinda sad.

We just sold a 3 Shelf Multi-Use Mobile Therapy Cart. I hope it was someone who knows what they wanted exactly because, unfortunately, the vendor doesn't supply us with a lot of detail on this product.

We also sold an Analog T.E.N.S. with 2" Tens Pre-gelled Electrodes. It has dual channel, modulation/burst/standard modes, and comes complete with accessories and carrying case.

We also recently sold a box of 3cc Slip Tip Syringes. I hope they ordered by the part# (TERSS03S) or something close to it, because we didn't get a picture from the vendor, and don't have any real description from them, either. Ah, the trials and tribulations of trying to provide good products to good people through an on-line retail web store.

We also sold a 2000T T.E.N.S. Stimulator recently. Got a reasonably good description, though it comes from Graham-Field and I'm struggling to get the names to make the most sense possible, since they put important info in different places, and one global solution for every products ends up with weird names like "The 2000T Stimulator Warranty: 5-year warranty".

On Urological Catheters

There are a lot of options in regards to urological catheters. That includes catheter trays, like the Touchless Intermittent Catheter Kit.

External Latex catheters, like the Gizmo Male External Catheter. That's a two-piece catheter system. The system includes male external catheter, with single-sided adhesive strip. Pure, soft, natural, latex-reinforced funnel end. Adhesive does not come in contact with skin. And it's twist-proof. So, yay!

There are also External Nonlatex Catheters, like the InView Special External Catheter, or the Conveen Security Self-sealing Male External Catheters, the Freedom Clear Catheter, and more.

External reusable catheters, like the McGuire Male Urinal, also have their place.

A Foley catheter is a thin, sterile tube inserted into your bladder to drain urine. Because it can be left in place in the bladder for a period of time, it is also called an indwelling catheter. It is held in place with a balloon at the end, which is filled with sterile water to hold it in place. The urine drains into a bag and can then be taken from an outlet device to be drained. Laboratory tests can be conducted on your urine to look for infection, blood, muscle breakdown, crystals, electrolytes, and kidney function. The procedure to insert a catheter is called catheterization.

A Foley catheter is used with many disorders, procedures, or problems such as these:

Retention of urine leading to urinary hesitancy, straining to urinate, decrease in size and force of the urinary stream, interruption of urinary stream, and sensation of incomplete emptying. Obstruction of the urethra by an anatomical condition that makes it difficult for you to urinate: prostate hypertrophy, prostate cancer, or narrowing of the urethra. Urine output monitoring in a critically ill or injured person. Collection of a sterile urine specimen for diagnostic purposes. Nerve-related bladder dysfunction, such as after spinal trauma (A catheter can be inserted regularly to assist with urination.) Also used for imaging study of the lower urinary tracts and after surgery.

Ah, the Babinski Hammer. It is the instrument of choice for, neurologists and is named after the French Neurologist, Joseph Francois Babinski, best known for the "toe phenomenon". This diagnostic instrument is also often referred to as the Rabiner for the version with a swivel head. Modern Babinski Hammers are often modified to incorporate contemporary design and functionality for eliciting myotatic and plantar response with less effort and greater patient comfort.

Then there's the Wartenburg Pinwheel. You've got to love that name. It designed for evaluation of gross cutaneous sensory perception and pain perception responses.

Interesting Things

Just reviewing a couple of things we've recently sold. Because, who knows? You might want some, too.

For example, we just sold one of our MDF 535-Babinski Hammers. MDF® Babinski Hammer is the instrument of choice by neurologists. Named after the French Neurologist, Joseph François Babinski, best known for the "toe phenomenon". This diagnostic instrument is also often referred to as the Rabiner.

Before that, we sold some 3cc Monoject Syringes. And some EXCILON© Drain Sponges, sponges with a unique, precut T-slit. They conform snugly around drains and IV sites. And, recently, some Adult Wood Crutches with Grips, Tips and Pads. These are laminated wood crutches that are made from the finest hardwood veneers. Crutches come complete with accessories (closed hand grips underarm cushions and tips). And a good price. So, cool.

Specialty Wound Care is different from Core Wound Care in that Specialty Wound Care is directed towards surgical treatments, dressings for surgical wounds, and wounds that or complex enough to require special surgical treatment or procedures. Core Wound Care is more for the every day cuts, burns, scrapes, gashes and even severe cuts.

Specialty Wound Care covers product categories such as composite dressings, such as the Invacare Silver Alginate Dressing pictured to the left. Or 3M Tegaderm Pad Film Dressing.

We also carry a variety of Collagen Silicone products. A variety of specialty wound care absorber products. And, naturally, hydrocolloid alginate dressings, such as the Comfeel Plus Ulcer Dressing.
